do this for religious or moral purposes, then accept that. >> reporter: he wants them to label their in-flight food so this will never happen again. the airlines will only say they have been in contact with the passenger. they offered him 2,000 miles. it will take more than 95,000 to get back to india. a man opened his door about 8 this morning to find his neighbor standing there, covering in blood, holding a knife. she told him she had just killed someone. police then found the woman's mother dead inside the home that she and her daughter shared. 59-year-old nancy framzin apparently killed in her bedroom in what police are calling a, quote, bloody crime scene. the daughter, nancy framzin, is in jail tonight, charged in murder. police have yet to make any arrests in the murder of a 13-

year-old girl. >> she had family. she had people that loved her. she was loved. we loved her. >> reporter: they asked us not to show their faces on tv because they are afraid of a killer who is still on the loose. they are family members of a murdered 13-year-old girl. >> we had a dance contest and there was 20 people. janell won, hands down. she had a lot of spirit. >> reporter: the victim's name is janell allen, but she went by janell conway. they say she has bounced around from richmond to vallejo. they say that janell has endured struggles related to her natural mother, but they didn't want to elaborate. >> she always had a smile on her face. >> reporter: she was last seen

getting off the bus stop after school on thursday. the next morning, her naked body was found dumped in allen witt park in fairfield. >> you take a baby and you just dump her like she's a piece of garbage. and she wasn't. she was a human being. >> reporter: the fairfield police department has sealed all information related to janell's murder. so it is still unclear who did this, how they killed her, and why. family members are planning a vigil friday evening. even though they didn't bring home the lombardi trophy, the 49ers got a homecoming fit for championships. colin kaepernick waved to fans who welcomed the team home. hundreds more fans showed up at team headquarters up the road in santa clara. reporter kiet do was among them. kiet? >> reporter: some of these fans started waiting since 9:00 in

the morning. that means they were happy to stand around for seven hours just to get a glimpse of the team. talk about the faithful, indeed. it's not quite a victory parade, but it will have to do for now. the buses arrived at team headquarters with more than 100 screaming fans. many players didn't even acknowledge the fans when they left. but a few did. linebacker patrick willis rolled down his windows and waved. frank gore high-fived a lucky few. and some players actually stopped among the chaos. >> does it make you feel better after what happened yesterday, to see all the fans? >> oh, yeah. yesterday was yesterday, you know. sorry that we didn't bring home the no.

thank you, kiet. it could take days to figure out why the lights went out at the super bowl. electrical tests done a few months ago showed there was a chance of a power failure. and cbs 5 reporter armin was in the control room during the blackout and says there is one rumor that can be put to rest. >> reporter: the route cause of the -- root cause of the darkout remains under investigation. but they say it was tied to a shutdown of one of the main electrical lines. thornton said power from the electrical company was being fed into a substation, which split the electrical feed into two main lines running power into the stadium. it was the main a line that went dark without warning. it happened some 90 seconds within the third quarter. we were in the nfl command center. the man in charge of the

[ wind howling ] easier than actually going to the bank. mobile check deposit. easier banking. standard at citibank. kindergartner hostage in an undergound bunker for nearly a week is dead. his 5 year old capt the alabama man who held a kindergartner hostage in an underground bunker for nearly a week is dead tonight. his five-year-old captive is safe. police say that jimmy lee dykes snatched the boy, named ethan, from a school bus late tuesday after shooting the driver dead. dykes allowed the feds to deliver food and toys to the child, and that gave the fbi an opening it was looking for.

>> they created an opportunity today, because he was getting more irrational. he was handling the weapon, they say. and they created an opportunity to bring him to the door to accept that delivery, then they threw in the distraction devices, what are commonly called flash bangs. they made a blinding bright light and a huge noise that is very disorienting, and a very small entry team, no more than four hostage rescue members, went in there, engaged dykes, killed him, and then rescued the boy. this probably took seconds. >> ethan was reunited with his family at the hospital. he's said to be doing well tonight. volunteers at a bay area animal shelter say dogs are unfairly being sent to their deaths, instead of being sent to the foster families that want them. they cold kpix 5 reporter

sharon chin, speaking up got them kicked out. >> reporter: the dog was euthanized eight days after eating a tennis ball. >> they should have gotten veterinary care immediately. >> reporter: vicki brown says eli's medical records show he got morphine but no exam by a veterinarian. she says that's a violation of the rules for animal care in shelters. amy cooper would only respond via e-mail. she said the shelter put him down because of aggressive behavior and medical conditions. but volunteer dixie keith says eli, a friendly dog, wasn't given a fair chance. >> imagine if you're sitting in the back with a tennis ball in your gut. i think i would be grouchy. >> reporter: in another case in december, the shelter euthanized a senior dog, shasta, less than 24 hours after she started antibiotics

for severe diarrhea. volunteer shirley said shasta appeared to be improve. >> she was wagging her tail. she sat with me, kept wanting to eat. >> reporter: but she says a staff member yanked her from her arms and euthanized her. the shelter director tells us the dog was put to sleep because she had signs of depression, lethargy and weight loss. in both cases, volunteers dixie keith and shirley said after they questioned the shelter's decision to youthize, the shelter told them not to come back. >> we all wondered, what's the rush? >> reporter: they said the decision to euthanize is on an individual basis. as for the two volunteers, she said they were not able to perform within the shelter's conduct standard. the county is looking into taking legal action.

>> i'm wondering if the age of these dogs has anything to do with this or their breed. >> yes. they are taking it on a cases- by-case basis. certainly in this one case, the shelter was saying that yes, the age and the condition, the depression, did factor into their decision, is what they say. >> all right. sharon chin, thank you for that. a federal judge told the people who run the oyster farm at point reyes that they will indeed have to shut it down. the judge refused a request by drakes bay oyster company to overturn another judge's ruling. that means the company has until march 15 to not only close do you know the business but also remove all the equipment. the company's 40-year permit to harvest oysters expired. the federal government, citing the environmental concerns, says no more. air force 1 made a pretty
